Polls: Majority of Coloradans Support Obama Care Repeal
Think Tank Sees Opposition to Federal Health Care Takeover as Good News for Amendment 63 “Right to Health Care Choice”
Golden, Colorado – Two new polls show a majority of Coloradans favor repealing Obama Care, indicating a strong base of support for statewide initiative Amendment 63.
Both a Rasmussen Reports survey and a Pulse Opinion Research poll for Fox News conducted independently in the space of two weeks show 53 percent of Colorado voters want to undo Washington D.C.’s legislative efforts to force them into a government-mandated, government-run health plan. The results reflect the significant support for Independence Institute president Jon Caldara’s Amendment 63 — an initiative on this November’s ballot that attempts to secure Colorado citizens’ right to health care choice.
“Amendment 63 is resonating with Colorado voters who wish to send a message to Washington D.C.,” said Independence Institute president Jon Caldara.
If passed, Amendment 63 would write into the Colorado Constitution that the State of Colorado cannot force its citizens to purchase a public or private health insurance product, either on its own, or on behalf of the federal government. In other words, Colorado would not be able to implement a Massachusetts-style insurance mandate (otherwise known as Romney Care) nor enforce the federal individual mandate passed as part of Obama Care.
“Colorado voters have seen the devastation of health care mandates through Romney Care in Massachusetts and want to avoid those consequences in our state,” Caldara said.
The amendment would also constitutionally protect fee-for-service health care by ensuring the right to pay out of pocket for health care services and products if you so choose. Even if Colorado were to implement a single-payer health care system, Coloradans would be free to participate in voluntary exchange with a health care provider outside the system.
The Independence Institute also sees recent victories in other states as an indication of Amendment 63’s favorable chances this November. Missouri voters overwhelmingly rejected Obama Care in early August when they voted 71% to 29% for Prop C, which bars their state from implementing or enforcing a health insurance mandate.
